This class is great for first-time parents and a helpful refresher for those who are birthing again.
Discussing your options for birth, you will learn pain coping skills and comfort measures as well as how to recognize stages of labor, when to go to the hospital, baby procedures and an introduction to breastfeeding. It is a fun-filled weekend of information gathering and active hands-on learning.
Teresa Howard is a childbirth, parenting and lactation educator, labor and postpartum doula. She was the founder of Labor of Love Doula and Childbirth Services, Inc.and sold that company in 2016 when she moved to Athens. She is now the owner of Athens Nurturing Nanas- labor and postpartum services and Wisdom for Birth Childbirth Classes.
She began assisting in births in 1992, working with water births, natural births, twins, high-risk births & VBACs. She has doula’d for both home and hospital births, with over 700 moms and babies.
She has previously been certified for more than a decade with both Doulas of North America (DONA) and the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) as a labor doula and childbirth and lactation educator. She is a retired La Leche League leader and previous certified postpartum doula trainer and lactation trainer for several years with CAPPA. She teaches a merger of her over 25 years of training- Lamaze, Bradley, Birthing from Within and BOLD, calling it Wisdom for Birth. She is a certified Happiest Baby on the Block instructor, BOLD facilitator and trained Dancing for Birth instructor. She's also trained to integrate acupressure into pregnancy, labor, and postpartum care and certified in Rebozo use and Spinning Babies.
She is a mom to three children, all married and living in Athens. And the nana to five grandchildren. She and her husband live on the west side of Athens.
